Client Database for Emergency - Ask the Community
Vern says "Our organisation provides emergenecy relief for a very large shire, we need to come up with a new data base to record client details, details of each visit, what was provided etc. The database needs to be accessed from our base but also remotely from our outpost locations and so needs to allow more than one user at a time. I feel we can’t use clould based because of confidentiality, privacy etc. Is anyone out there also involved with providing emergency relief that has found a good solution?" |

What do you want to use social media for? - Social Media
Michael says "I’m a long time advocate of social media…I’ve been ramping up the use of twitter and facebook where I work (community RTO) and it is just now bearing some fruit. There was a lot of resistance in the beginning – with Facebook and particularly Twitter seen as a ‘time-waster’ or ‘frivolous’ and ‘just for young people’. Social media…has been a fantastic tool in getting us on the radar for funding bodies and stakeholders. It doesn’t take a huge amount of work…The end result has been a greatly raised profile and some important visits from politicians who found us on twitter. For me the trick is to see time spent on social media as a long term investment. Small, regular posts and avoid the urge to market all the time! …it has been great to see a social media campaign sustained long enough for benefits to seep through to even the most sceptical!"

Having trouble getting Management buy in for Social Media in your workplace?- Social Media
Robert says "We continue to struggle with the issue of Social Media from a management perspective. There continues to be a tendency to view social media as a timewasting activity that should be restricted within the workplace. I think the agent for change will be driven by agencies and groups who can successfully demonstrate the the use of social media as an effecive communication tool."

Facebook timeline for your organisation & the advantages of Yammer - Social Media
Rheinard says "Nice. Thanks. Also noticed an issue with the new update. People are grumbling that Timeline for Pages gets rid of the Default Landing Page option. Some people have used this successfully to increase Likes on their pages by providing teaser content that's only available to people who have liked it. Personally, I think this could be an issue if you’re marketing relies on it. On the other hand, I think it means that people can now really focus on relationship marketing and..."

Social media for social inclusion - Ask the Community
Kate says "Hi @amandab, I was recently reading this article: (log-in to see web link) It is titled Social media barrier or tool for inclusion? One of the key points is that for people with disabilities, numbering one in five Australians, access to these sites can be life-changing. ...Social media is the cornerstones of modern communication and it is essential that people with disabilities can access it and... are able to use these tools and stay connected with the world."

Liz says (page 2) "... It might be worth subscribing just to see how they use Facebook as a tool, get a few handy hints! Another thing I’ve found FB useful for is you can ‘friend’ politicians. I’ve had interesting discussions with Pollies that I’m sure I’d never be able to get an audience with in the ‘real’ world. It’s also been interesting for me to ‘eavesdrop’ on their real lives. You can’t sugar coat everything, nor would you want to, but balance is important..."

Document Control Policy - Ask the Community
Rheinard asks "We’ve mapped out quite a specific folder structure for our shared documents stored on Dropbox (for Teams). What we do lack though is a policy/procedure for specifying the use of a document structure (including naming conventions for files and sub-folders). The folders are pretty self-explanatory, yet we occasionally have staff who insist on moving things or creating duplicates because the structure doesn’t suite everyone’s workflows. Has anyone faced this scenario and perhaps have a policy or guideline to share?"
